The Himalayan Agricultural Foundation, with co-financing from the German NGO MISEREOR, has launched a new project involving a high percentage of families in the Bitaco district and surrounding areas, benefiting both the inhabitants and the environment of the upper and middle Bitaco River basin, Valle del Cauca.
The main objective is to improve the quality of life and ecosystem of the communities living in the district, which is condensed into three specific goals:
- Implementing good governance and participatory democracy practices at the local level based on Digital Democracy 4.0. A new generation of young people will be trained to monitor their Territorial Action Plan before local and departmental democratic bodies, using accountability-focused control mechanisms.
- Increasing family incomes for entrepreneurs by strengthening organizational, productive, and ecological strategies that enable them to reach their potential markets more effectively.
- Executing risk prevention and climate change adaptation actions from a participatory and democratic approach, strengthening the pillars of community sustainability.
The project, which will conclude in 2026, aims for collaborative work among the community, public institutions, and our foundation as a facilitator of processes.
